[I don't know why a kid would lay down on a wild animal's skin either...]
Metro Station. Gabrielle Cilmi. Kate Perry. Pink. Surely a lineup of artists like that you'd think you'd be listening to a pop chart station like 2Day FM or Nova - but you'd be wrong!
These artists above feature on so-called rock station Triple M!
So, why am I annoyed you may ask. Yes, these songs deserve airplay due to their popularity, but are they rock?
[They're writing a cheque their body can't cash! ]
Triple M boasts via a station id most hours about its rock heritage, but in recent years the rock has been replaced by these pop artists and some band have disappered altogether.
Example: when was the last time you heard Meat Loaf, Silverchair (their earlier stuff in particular), Metallica, Spiderbait, Oasis, Australian Crawl, Jimi Hendrix, Smashing Pumpkins, Wolfmother, amongst others being played?
[Now here's a man who knows how to rock!]
Sure, maybe these bands are played when I'm not listening, but obviously they are not played often enough.
And let's not forget how The M's totally ignored the entire career of Shannon Noll, probably the most successful Australian solo rock artist this decade. He rocks! But Triple M says no - Cilmi rocks.
Personally, I hate having these songs on Triple M, they make me switch over to Vega or 2WS.
I say, Triple M - if you rock - play rock. If you're playing this shit, it's false advertising.
