[Jay & Silent Bob in crystal clear pirated video]
So there I was at "The Run" (an op shop factory) today looking for some golf clubs (for my birthday project - the mini golf course) and I found a shit load of good videos.
Videos, you might say, what's so good about them?
Well back in my day, which is still today I think, videos were awesome. They still are. They're cheaper than DVDs and that means I can get more videos for my already large collection.
Today I got:
- Saturday Night Live best of
- Winfield Cup best of
- Moonraker
- Super Mario Bros.
- Crocodile Dundee II
- Top Gun
- The Virgin Suicides
- Clueless
- Good Will Hunting
- Porky's Revenge
- Mr Holland's Opus
- 25 Years of Australia's Best Ads
- Mallrats
- Sliding Doors
- She's All That
- Waterworld
- The Rock
I found that I already had The Rock so it will be passed onto some semi-desperate person, but finally I have a copy of Mr Holland's Opus to call my own.
Mr Holland's Opus is one of my top five movies of all time and echoes my own life: will I ever finish my own opus - Waiting For Tonight.
Waiting For Tonight is seen as a pre-cursor to Earthquake Tonight, the show I have been working on for 12 years. WFT is a story of the bringing together of the people who make up the show - essentially a story of me bumping into people and asking them to partake in the show as well as helping out one depressed lad with his problems.
The movie was three quarters done but there wasn't enough time to do the last couple of scenes.
But I digress, I have already watched one of the videos (after coming back from beach cricket today) and it happened to be Mallrats. I have heard a lot of good things about Kevin Smith and other than watching him on MTV in the 90's (as part of his Jay & Silent Bob sketches) I hadn't seen much of him - til now.
First off, the video I got from The Run was pirated - I didn't know that it was. The sound was a bit patchy at times and the video went in and out every now and then but it was alright. It looked like a legit video from the cover though.
Mallrats was great - the timbre of the dialogue was in a similar vein to that of WFT. For me, the best parts of the movie consisted of the action around Jay & Silent Bob. I plan to see some more Kevin Smith movies in the future because after reading about him he has inspired me to work more on my personal projects in the future.
It's time to finish my Opus, otherwise my life will be Clueless!
